The Biggest Red Flag Interview Question: Why Did You Leave Your Last Job?

More than any other interview question, this one has the potential to end the interview. The Godfather gives you the right answer.

Wrong Answer: My Employer/Boss Sucked

Nobody wants to hire a Drama Queen. Never speak poorly of your last company or boss. Trust me, they forgot your name the day you walked out the door.

Wrong Answer: Spinning the Truth

Right Answer: Honesty is the Best Policy

There are a variety of correct answers. This year thousands were caught up in the RIF (reduction in force). Company restructuring is not your fault, and it's a valid reason for leaving. Seeking career growth and challenges is acceptable. And here is the "tell me your company sucked without telling me your company sucked" line:

"I'm looking for a company that is more aligned with my long-term career goals and, based on my research, this role is a perfect match."
