The Godfather on "Palms Up" Human Resources Executives

My recent Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and VP, Human Resources searches resulted in a thundering herd of cold calls and unsolicited resumes. It reminded me how many executives only come with palms up (asking for a favor). It's not just HR people. Also received the resumes of several casino GMs that never bought me a cup of coffee.

I only represent executives I know personally and have long-term relationships with. There is a great reason for that: My clients expect me to personally vouch for every candidate I submit. I can't do that for someone I don't know and have never met. It's not you...it's me.

I'll give you a second excellent reason the BIG jobs go to my professional network. Because those are the executives that supported my business and charity work the last 20+ years, and if nothing else, I'm the most loyal person you ever met. I don't apologize for that. Always build the bridge before you need to cross the river.

My advice to HR executives: Work with Executive Recruiters you have a long-term relationship with. The ones you sent business and supported. They are the ones that owe you a favor.
